The Best and Worst of My Reading Year (…so far)

We’ve entered the last quarter of the year, so I thought it would be great to reflect on some of my favourite and least-favourite books of 2017.

We’ve entered the last quarter of the year, so I thought it would be great to reflect on some of my favourite and least-favourite books of 2017. My reading goal was to read 150 books this year, and as of 2nd of September, I have read over 230 books. It’s analysing time!

What Counts

It should be clear that my tally includes: audiobooks, ebooks, ARCs, university reads, and a handful of DNFs (but trust me, I’ve given the book at least a week, in most cases, before I decided to Not Finish them).

How I Am Collecting My Data

I have faithfully used Goodreads, as I practically use it religiously.  How I accessed my data: Go to “My Books” > in the sidebar, click “Stats” > Click the option for “details” next to 2017.

The Round-Up
Screen Shot 2017-09-02 at 5.09.16 pm

  • 5 stars = 29 books
  • 4 stars = 56 books
  • 3 stars = 60 books
  • 2 stars = 28 books
  • 1 stars = 29 books
  • 0 stars/unrated = 4 books

My Longest Book

Is, disappointedly, Herodotus’ work of The Histories. I used this for my first semester in university at the start of this year. However, discounting this and solely focusing on recreational reading, then Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare ( my review) and A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas (my review), are most notable (coincidence: they are two of my most enjoyed novels this year?!? Hmmmmm…).

My Shortest Book

Goodreads doesn’t count audiobooks in this, so it would have to be Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote (my review).

Most Popular Book Read in 2017

The Hobbit by J. R. Tolkien (my review).

These are all books that I rated 5/5 stars.

  • Best Audiobooks:

It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover (my review).

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys (my review).

  • Best New Adults:

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne (my review, unless you’re related to me… then please ignore this review).

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas (my review, “”).

  • Best YA Contemporary:

The Upside to Unrequited by Becki Albertalli (my review).

  • Best YA Fantasies:

Valentine by Jodie McAlister (my review).

Wintersong by S. Jae – Jones (my review).

  • Best Sci-Fi:

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray (my Goodreads review).

The Worst Books I’ve Read This Year

I rated all of these books 1/5 stars.

Night World (#3) by L.J. Smith (my review).

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson (my review).

Betrayed by P.C. Cast (my review).

The Pain, My Mother, Sir Tiffy, Cyber Boy & Me by Michael Gerard Bauer (my review).

So there you have it! My list of best and worst books of 2017 (so far).
