Juniper Lemon’s Happiness Index by Julie Israel
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE BOOK:
It took me a week to read this book. More specifically it took me 4 days to read 50 pages of this book. It wasn’t as great as I thought it would be. Frankly, I was expecting something more uplifting, but this was a massive bummer. But a
realistic
bummer at that.
CHARACTERS/DYNAMICS:
At first, I didn’t know whether to ship Juniper with Nate or Brand.
My favourite character was Kody, as I thought she was super relatable (a romance-loving geek with an obsession with all-things cliche).
I didn’t understand the point of the school bully; Morgan. I thought there’d be some big twist at the end that she was the deceased sister’s lover. But no. Just annoying.
PLOT:
It’s pretty much an extended edition of Violet’s story from All the Bright Places. ALSO, WARNING: YOU NEVER FIND OUT WHO THE MYSTERIOUS LOVER WAS.
THEMES:
Think of every YA Penguin book.
You know, stuff from John Green and Jay Asher.
NOW JUST COMBINE ALL THE ANGSTY MOMENTS.
That’s it.
THE ENDING:
As I mentioned, it sucked. You never find out who wrote the letters.
IMPACT:
This just renews my mantra that I should not read books for the sake of their pretty covers.
But c’mon, look at that cover. Wow-ee.
that cover is gorgeous! the other cover…looks like a six year old with a stock photo and Microsoft paint made it. LOOK AT THE STANDARD FONTS. I just…no.
le sigh. i’m not really big on penguin contemporaries. harper teen on the other hand… he he he he

I LOVE HARPER TEEN.
Did you read this book?
I always end up reading Penguin contemporaries, and I never like them. Why do I do this to myself?
